Friday 15th March
Yesterday I met with my oncologist for my second round of Chemotherapy and to get the results from my recent lung biopsy.
The news was not what we were hoping......I am not positive for T790M and I have less pld -1 than originally thought. This means I am not a candidate for Tagrisso (which we were hoping for) and we have to see if immunotherapy will still be as effective in the brain.
What does this mean for me?
- It means that I will continue with Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy as the best option for me.
- I'll get an MRI on my whole body (including brain) in about 3 weeks (to see if its working in the brain since radiation and immunotherapy
- I'm basically starting all over again....(12 weeks from now)
- more pain from chemotherapy in cancer areas.
- May look at other EFGR treatments (should this not be effective)
Have to say the information was tough to hear because I was preparing myself for coming out of this and starting to feel better, now I'm learning there is a long road ahead.
What am I going to do about it???
Well the last couple of weeks have been tough. I have had increased symptoms from the treatments, operations and medications and it has knocked us around a lot.
Since the start of the year I haven't driven anywhere and done anything on my own.....people who know me well will know that I need to plan things and do things.
So I'm going to try and get some of my independence back.
Slowly I'm going to see how much I can do and what I still need help with so that we get some normality back into the house.
- I would like to see if I can walk to the school some times and pick up kids
- I will make dinner a few times a week
- start having scheduled visitors
- mostly change my attitude. These last 2 weeks have been tough with increased pain (which I've been told will get worse over the next 12 weeks due to the chemo). With pain and less than great news it's tough to remain positive.
I am positive that I am determined and going to fight harder than anyone I know. I'm just struggling with being positive about the process now. I was hoping to be towards the end of it not starting. I can't imagine another 12+ weeks of the same.
We have too much to do and I'm going to try and say "Yes, we will try and be there" and do my best to try and make it work.
